Welcome to the Cranston, RI City Clerk's Office's Vital Statistics online ordering system. Requests will be processed Monday-Friday: 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM. The Cranston City Clerk's Office processes orders within 2 business days, excluding weekends and holidays, once all information is available.
REQUESTING A BIRTH, DEATH, OR MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE
Birth Certificates
- A copy of your birth certificate is on file in the city/town in which you were born, and in the city/town in which your mother lived at the time of your birth. For all Births from 1960 and after, you may access from any city/town in the State of Rhode Island.
- Newborn birth certificates generally take 4-6 weeks to be entered into the state system. Receipt of the social security card is a good indicator that the birth certificate will be available.
Death Certificates
- Certified copies of death certificates can be obtained for individuals that passed away in or were residents of Cranston, Rhode Island prior to 2022. Deaths from 2022 to the present can be obtained from any city/town in Rhode Island.
Marriage Certificates
- Certified copies of your marriage license can be obtained from the City Clerk's Office of your residence at the time of marriage, or the city/town of marriage. Marriages 2022 to present can be obtained from any city/town in Rhode Island.

Standard Shipping is through the USPS. Please allow 5-7 Business days for your order to be processed and the document delivered.
You will be asked to select the method of receiving the certificates during the application. You will be notified by us once we have processed your application and the certificates are out for mail or ready for pickup.
